Digital and Print Interaction Papers at ODDS
The agenda of the Optical and Digital Document Security (ODDS) conference reflects increasing interest in getting cash to interact with smartphones and other devices. Four papers consider new approaches in this area.
SICPA will present a new intaglio feature which can authenticate embedded data instantly using a smartphone. The smartphone reads a secure symbology-feature that is embedded in intaglio print.
Although presented in the ID section of the conference, the Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office (INCM) are presenting a recent technology that they have created with the University of Coimbra. Known as CodeFace, the technology is intended to allow the digital authentication of printed images such as face portraits. A secret message is encoded that is printer-proof, based on steganographic technology.
Ernesto Gonzalez Candela from UnderCurrency will present a security and authentication system that is based on crypto anchor technology. The paper presents a methodology that they regard as offering a new framework – and a potential standard – to design secure and deterioration-resilient digital identifiers for security documents.
Martin Eichenberger from Orell Füssli and Guillaume Basset of CSEM present an interactive security feature which is read by illuminating a banknote with a white light source, such as the LED light on a smartphone. When illuminated lighting guides in security foils allow different areas, or symbols, to light up.
Digital Masterclass
One of the Masterclass seminars before the main conference investigates how to secure payment and ID data. As the world goes digital and the physical documents become part of digital systems, the security of digital data is critical. The seminar, led by Augentic, will consider the principles and building blocks needed to capture, process, hold and use valuable data, starting with the data centre.
By the end of the Masterclass, attendees will have a sound understanding of the key concepts and will be able to benchmark their own data systems against the experience of the experts and other attendees.
ODDS takes place in Vienna 11-13 April 2022 – opticaldigitalsecurity.com.
