BANTAS is a joint subsidiary of three commercial banks, and the leading cash services provider in Turkey. It has about 1,800 employees, 46 cash centres with 490 armoured vehicles across the country. It is the sole provider in Northern Cyprus.

In Turkey, sustainability practices are developing as de facto industry standards. Any regulations concerning the industry and sustainability come from the banks and corporate customers, which they impose on their providers, namely cash in transit (CIT) suppliers.

Larger banks, mostly subsidiaries of multinational banks, have started both questioning their indirect CO2 footprint through their providers, and asking for the use of more environmentally friendly materials to be used in the delivery of their services. Some banks go further and ask their CITs to use recyclable material in the provision of their services. In addition, general ‘commercial regulations’ guide the industry on issues such as recycling or environmental awareness. Recent taxation of plastic bags used in shopping is one example.
