Sand Dollar Action at the CB+DC Conference

The CB+DC Conference 2025 will take place from 9-11 September in the Bahamas. Unsurprisingly, the Central Bank of the Bahamas, with the world’s first circulating CBDC, the Sand Dollar, is playing a key role in the conference. It is also celebrating its 50th anniversary.

At the conference, delegates will be able to visit a Sand Dollar Village where they can pay with Sand Dollars for local products.

In addition, central bank delegates can visit the central bank’s main office for a session titled ‘Inside the Sand Dollar’, exploring its origins and the Bank’s vision for the future.

Three awards will be presented at the conference to recognise excellence. The categories are:

  • Technology Award: presented to organisations that have advanced technological innovation and contributed to the growth of the digital currency ecosystem.
  • Best Stablecoin / Tokenized Asset Project: recognizes a stablecoin or tokenisation initiative that has delivered meaningful improvements in financial efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: honours individuals or organisations whose sustained contributions have significantly shaped the digital currency sphere.
