Cash’s enduring role
Despite the rapid adoption of digital payment systems, cash continues to thrive, demonstrating remarkable resilience and relevance. Globally, banknote volumes are increasing at an annual rate of 5%, with South Asia leading at 8.8%. Today, over 730 billion banknotes are in circulation, nearly two-thirds of which are in Asia—a region home to 2.4 billion people.
