Cash Essentials Launches Cash Glossary
Cash Essentials, the independent initiative that seeks to provide a platform for debate about the payments and monetary ecosystems, has published its first edition of a Cash Glossary. The aim is to give the cash industry a shared vocabulary relating to payments and the cash cycle.
The Cash Essentials website describes the glossary as a ‘collective work’ edited by Antti Heinonen, Chairman Banknote Ethics Initiative and ex-European Central Bank/Bank of Finland, and Guillaume Lepecq, Chair at Cash Essentials.
The glossary contains a mixture of words from banknote production, the banknote itself, the cash cycle and payments. At first glance the editors have done a good job collecting key words needed for discourse in the cash arena.
The glossary is not a comprehensive technical record and does not include descriptions of all the security features and technologies used in banknotes. It touches on some of the most frequently used words in these areas.
The editors welcome contributions of new words or edits of those already in the glossary. It will be interesting to see whether this could become a ‘Wikipedia’ style document broadening out to cover the full range of terms and areas of interest around payments and cash. In which case the ability to search on key words will be needed.
