Qatar Enters CBDC Development Phase

The Qatar Central Bank (QCB) is to enter a developmental phase for a CBDC for payment settlement with local and international banks. It has concluded a comprehensive study and is now entering a development and testing phase for suitable applications.

The project will also look at using Artificial Intelligence (AI), distributed ledger technology (DLT) and emerging technologies. No decision has been made about whether it will issue a CBDC.

mBridge Enters MVP Stage

mBridge is an initiative to develop a cross border CBDC involving the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the central banks of China, Hong Kong, Thailand and the UAE. The Central Bank of Saudi Arabia has now jointed the project as it enters the earliest production phase, the minimum viable product (MVP) stage. 26 other organisations are observing.
