Norway Continues Measured CBDC Research

The Deputy Governor of Norges Bank, Pal Longva, has said that Norway has ‘no urgency’ around its digital currency initiatives. Norway has completed four stages of CBDC investigation. It is now concentrating on applications of wholesale CBDCs in a fifth phase of work to be completed by the end of 2025.

Denmark has concluded that a CBDC is not needed given that is has effective payment infrastructures. Sweden’s Ministry of Finance is also not in a hurry to introduce an e-krona but is conducting further research.

mBridge Meeting Specific New Needs in Asia

A former Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC), Zhou Xiaochuan, has said that the mBridge cross-border platform that is being used to experiment using CBDC for international trade does not exclude the use of the US Dollar. He said mBridge is focusing on facilitating payments for small-amount current account transactions.
