China Explores Extending Cross-Border CBDC Payments

As yet unsubstantiated rumours report that China is linking its digital renminbi crossborder payment system to the 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and six Middle East jurisdictions.

Whether true or not, the direction of travel is clear, and it has significant implications both for the SWIFT network and the role of the dollar.

Cross-Border Sovereignty Battle Extends to Instant Payments

The European Payment Alliance (EuroPA) is moving to instant cross-border payments between mobile transfer schemes – Italy’s Bancomat, Spain’s Bizum and Portugal’s MB WAY – connecting more than 50 million users and 186 financial institutions.

EuroPA wants to provide a euro-owned payment system that takes back control from US card brands.
