Norway Says No, for Now, to a CBDC 

Norges Bank has assessed whether introducing a CBDC is appropriate to ensure that paying with the Norwegian krone will remain secure, efficient and attractive. It has concluded that introducing a central bank digital currency is currently not warranted.

SARB Shifts Focus to Wholesale CBDC

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has examined whether a retail CBDC could address persistent gaps in South Africa’s payment ecosystem. It found that the value of maintaining public access to central bank money in a digital economy and enabling financial innovation through technologies like smart contracts and tokenisation do not justify immediate action. SARB will shift its attention toward wholesale CBDC exploration.
