America: Land of the Free (and Payment Choice?)

The Payment Choice Coalition (PCC) in the US is an initiative launched in July 2024 by a high-level group of executives from companies active in the cash cycle: Brinks, Davis Bancorp, Fifth Third Bank, G+D, Loomis, and Lowers Risk Group. It has since expanded to include NCR Atleos, Diebold Nixdorf, Western Union, Controltek, and Crane Payment Innovations.

The two interdependent goals of the PCC are to increase awareness of the importance of cash as a payment option and to support the passage of the federal Payment Choice Act (PCA). It has an active, ambitious, and highly focused plan with clear goals for 2025 and is, therefore, an interesting example for all cash supporters.

The PCC exists alongside a number of organisations that promote cash around the world. Some are directly within the cash industry while others are connected with industry associations such as Cash Matters, the International Mint Industry Association, European Security Transport Association, Secure Cash & Transport Association, Cash Essentials, and International Association of Currency Affairs etc. Some are independent: Denaria, KEEP Cash: Worldwide, and the Campaign for Cash etc.
