Click, Tap or Cash? Jamaica’s Payment Landscape

BRANCHH Consulting and Outsourcing has commissioned a Payments Preferences Survey for Jamaica which lays bare where the country is in its transition from analogue (cash) to digital payments.

Headline findings

While cash is deeply embedded in Jamaican society, digital payments are frequently used by a large proportion of the population – 59% of people had used their debit card, 51% had paid in cash and 43% a bank transfer 1-5 times in the prior week.

17% of respondents do not typically carry any cash as all, suggesting a shift to a lesscash society is already underway.

On the other hand, 21% of respondents had not made a debit card payment in the last seven days. In addition, cash was used for transaction of all values, while digital methods were not.
