WhatsApp Helps India’s Small Business Payments
Meta has added a QR code-based payments option to the WhatsApp Business App in India, allowing small businesses to share QR codes in one tap so that customers can pay directly within WhatsApp using their preferred payment method.
Payments via WhatsApp is already popular in India.
Proposals to Make UPI Cash Withdrawals Easier
Elsewhere in India, changes are proposed to allow the country’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI) to be used to withdraw up to ₹10,000 in cash per transaction ($112.70) from more than two million business correspondent outlets across India. Currently withdrawals are only available at select ATMs and a limited set of merchants. The current cap is ₹1,000 per transaction in towns and cities and ₹2,000 in rural areas.
