US Senate Blocks Digital Dollar

The US Senate has voted 89 to 10 to ban the Federal Reserve from issuing CBDCs until after 2030 as part of a bipartisan housing bill. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives.

Rwanda Reports on CBDC Trial

The National Bank of Rwanda has published the results of its five month CBDC proof of concept trial that tested a retail e-FRW across online, offline (dual offline smartcards), and USSD stablecoin channels, confirming technical feasibility and the potential to enhance payment resilience, inclusion, and innovation.

Korean CBDC Project Restarts

Last year the Bank of Korea (BOK) started the initial phase of Project Hangang, a real-world transaction pilot for a CBDC. The first phase began in April 2025, and discussions for the second phase were underway in June 2025, when the project was suspended as debate over won-based stablecoins gained momentum. Legislation for a won-denominated stablecoins now faces delays and BOK is again looking at Hangang.
